It's beginning to look a lot like Christmas....

Check out these one of a kind, hand painted Christmas Trees! We are now learning about Christmas traditions and a what's a better tradition than decorating a Christmas Tree?! The students made these trees COMPLETELY on their own, which is why they are so awesome. From painting to cutting the trunk and decorating...all on their own! The teachers cut out the painted trees and mounted them on paper, but that's it! I can picture these in a nice frame to use as a decoration year after year!
Oh Christmas Tree, Oh Christmas Tree!

Polar Express/Pajama Day!

Pre-K and Kindergarten are having a special Polar Express/PJ Day on Wednesday, December 23rd! Children are invited to wear their PJs to school. We will watch the Polar Express and drink some hot chocolate! We can't wait for this well deserved fun filled magical day! Although it is PJ day, please send your child to school wearing sneakers. Reminder that this is also an early release day with dismissal at 1:10. Here's a little throwback to last year's Polar Express/PJ Day!
Wow...that conductor looks a lot like Dr. Bonasera! ;)

Little Learners!

So far the letters: c, o, a, d, g, and m have been introduced! We follow the Orton- Gillingham order. First, we focus on the lowercase letters (although we talk about the uppercase, too). Our main focus in letter identification, but letter sound is introduced and reviewed daily as well. After teaching letter/sound, we touch on letter formation. We teach the letter/sounds through a multi-sensory hands on approach. The kids are so excited and engaged when learning new letter! What more can we ask for?! Here are a few of our letter activities....
forming the letter g using green paper
d's with dot stickers
Alligator A's (eating the letter Aa)

Next up....letter Ll!

Thank you!

Thank you for attending conferences! They were a success! I appreciate your kindness and support!

Happy Hanukkah!

Pre-K has been learning about some of the Hanukkah traditions such as lighting the Menorah, playing the dreidel game and making latkes! We've been learning about these traditions through songs, poems, books and a special guest visitor!

Handprint Menorahs!

A huge THANK YOU to Whitney's grandma for reading us a Hanukkah story and teaching us how to make potato pancakes!
We each had a turn grating potatoes and mixing!
Almost ready!
Ready to eat with a little bit of applesauce and they are delicious!!!!! Mmmmm!!!!
Thanks again! What a fun and yummy experience! More please! :)

Center Time!

Centers:

1. Shape collage- we looked through magazines to find circles, squares, triangles and rectangles, then glued them on the correct shape.
We also sorted real life objects on a pocket chart to match each shape!
 2. Sensory Table- Playing in pasta with uppercase and lowercase letters!
 3. BIG NEWS....the upstairs of our "house" is OPEN!!! It was a very exciting day in Pre-K! We played with magna-tile blocks and dinosaurs up here!
 4. Number Pegs- Here we practiced counting, number recognition and fine motor skills!
So proud to put these numbers in order all by ourselves!!!! :)
 5.  Name building/writing and letter recognition practice-
First, we built our names by matching the letters in our name.
Then, we wrote our name by tracing each letter with a dry erase marker!
Each group has now had a turn at each center station!
We are learning so much during centers and having so much FUN!!!!

Thank you for visiting our blog! Come back soon to see these little scholars!
:)

Some serious building in Pre-K!

We are becoming quite the little builders in room 204! Takes a lot of patience and teamwork to build structures like these....
Having fun building with blocks....
(We used every last block on the shelf!)
and legos!!!

We love building!

Happy Birthday to Ashleigh and Aden!

Birthday wishes and yummy cupcakes! So happy to celebrate with you both! xoxo Love, Pre-K!

Mat Man!

"Mat Man" is a song where we use "body parts" to put build a person! We are learning and practicing how to draw a person including a head, eyes, nose, mouth, ears, body, arms, hands, legs and feet. The class has made great progress since "Mat Man" was introduced! We just can't get enough of "Mat Man"! Video coming soon.....hopefully!

December Family Project!

Looking forward to getting more decorated gingerbread houses back! Please return them asap, so we can hang them up for all to see. The kids love to share with the class what materials they used to decorate their house and who helped them! Thanks to those of you who have brought them in already! Check out the houses here....
SO creative....and yummy! Plenty of room for more!!!

New Specials Schedule!

If you can believe it, the second marking period has begun and with that comes a new specials schedule! Here it is:

Monday: PE
Tuesday: Music
Wednesday: PE
Thursday: Art
Friday: Media

Please remember to send your child to school wearing sneakers every day! With the cold weather coming, if your child wears boots, please put sneakers in his/her backpack. In order for children to participate in PE, they must wear sneakers. Although the temperature is dropping, we will continue go outside for as long as we can (until it is too cold...boo!). Please be sure your child comes to school wearing a heavy jacket for outside play time! :)

Moving right along!

We are moving right along in Pre-K! Each day, we start our morning with a morning meeting. This is an extremely important part of our day, which involves all classroom members (children and adults) that builds a community of caring. We sit in a circle and greet each other with happy faces, take attendance, go over our schedule, and participate in some songs and activities. The students LOVE morning meeting and the "teacher's helper" leads the morning meeting. Morning meeting covers many social and academic skills. When we do our greetings and attendance, each student moves their picture labeled with their name from "home" to "school". Then, we count how many children are at "home" and "school". Just this week, the students are no longer moving their picture labeled with their name, but just their name! So far, we are doing awesome with identifying our names (and working on being able to identify the letters in our name)! Keep up the great work Pre-K!
Pictures with names for attendance!
Just names for attendance!
Once the students have mastered identifying their first names, we will move on to last names!

Gobble Gobble!

I hope everyone had a wonderful and happy Thanksgiving! We had such a nice Thanksgiving Feast with our Pre-K family! We ate a delicious lunch of turkey, mashed potatoes, corn, rolls, cranberry sauce, fruit and apple pie. Before we ate, we went around the table and each shared something we were thankful for. It was very sweet! Thanks to all of those who helped and contributed to make our feast possible. We appreciated it! So thankful for these cute little turkeys!!!!

Love these hand made turkey hats!
