Love Monsters.... and Valentine's Day reminder!!!

We read the book "Love Monster" by Rachel Bright and created our own unique love monsters! The directions were to cut and glue to create their love monster however they like and they sure succeeded! Then, we each added writing to our monsters with the sentence starter "I love.....".  Another one of my favorite lessons!

**Thank you to those who donated valentine's materials to decorate our bags, so your child can deliver cards to his/her classmates on Valentine's Day. If you wish to make Valentine's Day cards, please include every child in the class. We have 15 students. Please do not write each child's name on the valentines as this makes handing them out very challenging. Instead, just have your child sign his/her own valentines. This is a good time to practice writing his/her name using the correct uppercase and lowercase letters. Do only a few each night so this activity remains fun and exciting! Feel free to send in the valentines in advance if they are complete. We can store them in the classroom. <3

Love monsters holding love monsters! :)

Love these monsters!!!
You can visit them on the bulletin board right outside of our classroom!

Groundhog Day!

We read Ten Grouchy Groundhogs along with a couple of other groundhog books and learned what Groundhog Day was all about! This is a silly countdown book that tells a story about groundhogs who can't wait for winter to end so they could get out of their den! After reading, we wanted to make our predictions whether it was going to be an early spring or longer winter!

First, we each colored in a groundhog...

then made our prediction!

We discussed the meaning or "more" and "less"

and counted them up!

Predictions are in.....more votes for YES, the groundhog will see its shadow!

We were right...the groundhog saw its shadow...longer winter! We looked to Punxsutawney Phil for his expertise!
Check out our cute Groundhog Day hats! We even made one for Dr. B! :)
Happy Groundhog Day! I'm still hoping for an early spring! ;)
